Hi, I bought a 1994 Dodge Ram Cummins and the mechanic looking it over is saying it needs a Muffler on it to get it certified but my buddy's say it doesnt need one, any input and proof that it doesnt would be great.

it does not need a muffler, however if your exceed local sound restrictions/laws you may get pulled over by the popo...

 

As Steve said it depends on your local laws.

 

I lost my muffler this past February to our wonderful New Hampshire frost heaves and replaced with 4" straight pipe front to back. No problems at all with getting an inspection sticker due to exhaust (although ball joints, u-joints and brakes presented a problem, but at 140k miles, its to be expected).

Sounds great and I've seen slight increase in power.

 

i concure. i have a 93 and ive had a straight pipe for many years but it all depends on your local laws and if you have a sticker man. lol it seems to breath a whole lot better and naturaly sounds better !!!
