09 CTD Auto Shifting Hard

I just test drove a 2500 CTD w/ auto. I noticed the transmission shifts very hard. Is this normal on this series truck/engine.

5 Speed or 6 Speed Auto?

My 2009 Ram 3500 CTD with 6 Speed Auto shifts very smoothly.
