Default Weak AC........

Hi everybody, let me start off by saying hi. Im the FNG. LOL

Anyways, here lately with the heat here in Houston climbing very rapidly I noticed that my AC isnt blowing nearly as hard as it should. When I turn it up i can hear the motor blowin but the actual output at the vent isnt getting harder. I was told by a friend that Dodge had a recall on 2006 2500's on the flap when you change from outside air to recirculate. That it brakes off and blocks the passage causing the lack of air flow. I tried searching online for any documentation to support the "recall" but I havent found any yet.

Can anybody point me in the right direction or know if this is in fact a recall. Thanks.

I'v got the same prob. Funny in Houston and I'm sweating to death. My mechanic friend has the same Mega cab and said basically what you said. The part is about 25 bucks, but you have to remove most of the dash to replace the a/c box. So he was able to just replace the broken door from under the dash. Going to the dealer today to inquire. I'll share what I found!

Yeah, I had the same issue with the Dallas heat 2 years back on my 06'.. mine went out at 12,000 miles. Took it to the dealer, they never said anything to me about a recall then, but did repair it under warranty. If not, be ready for an 8 hour labor bill...

The QUICK FIX and THE $53 Buck Fix.
1. First remove glove box by opening it and squeezing the left and right sides together. Fold all the way down and lift out.
2. Look up and to the right ( where the glove box was) for an louvered air intake. That is your recirc air intake. There should be a 3x5 inch foam flapper style valve. If you don't see it then stick your fingers down to the bottom of the vent and feel around. If it is lose it broke off and in blocking the air flow into the fan.
3. To get the broken piece out remove the fan that's under the glove box. (3 screws). Reach up into the air box where the broken flapper is and turn it long ways until you can pull it strait out.
4. The quick fix is to just put the fan back in, and now you have air from the inside and outside with out recirc control.
5. To fix the valve buy the new air box, take off the electric motor, and pull out the white plastic piece that holds the door in place. All you need is the door. I used the new white piece as well as the new motor, just because I had it all apart.
6. to Install, remove the old flapper motor, pull out the old white pin that connected to the broken door. Slide the new door up through the fan motor hole and push it up and aft to block off the cabin air louver vent. Slide the new white pin into the flapper on the left side. Now turn the white piece by hand to make sure it moves easy forward to aft.
7. Turn your truck on and push the recirc button on the a/c panel. When the light is on the motor will run to the full forward to close off air from the outside. Put the flapper in the full forward position and attach the flapper motor. MAKE SURE it moves in the right direction.
8. Now put everything back together!
TWO NOTES... if you have the Navigation stereo there is an amp that is in the way of the flapper motor screws. It is a pain in the A&& to get out.
Also I went to the dealer and they said it was not under warranty or recall. Called Chrysler and got NO JOY. The part ( # 68004226AB Housing ) Hope this helps and is not too confusing. Some pictures to help! First is the new box white the flapper and white door pin. Second is the fan box with the louvered air intake strait up, the flapper motor to the left of the vertical support and the evil silver amp to the far upper left of the picture.

Well almost exactly 3 years later I'm back reading my own instructions on how to fix the same problem. What a crap part! Is there any aftermarket replacement for the flapper that keeps breaking?
