Extreme Power Loss
This has been happening for a couple months now and is finally starting to get worse.I used to be cruising on the interstate and for a couple of seconds lose power like it wasn`t getting fuel.I changed the filter and it seemed to help. Then it would hardly move first thing in the morning and I saw white smoke.I dropped the tank and it was clean, changed the filter, and then changed the low pressure pump.Worked fine for two days, then back to screwing up.Hooked up the code reader and got a fuel injector timing error.Checked the exhaust side of the injectors with temp meter and didn`t see a change in temperature at any cylinder.Any ideas I don`t want to buy fuel injectors if I don`t need them. All hoses have been checked.`02 5.9L stick
First welcome to the forum.
Your not gonna like the next thing I say, but you should check it out more before you act on it anyway so here it is. That code is usually the "death code" for your VP44 injection pump. I am NOT an expert on this, but it seems I have read that before. Again have someone competent check it out before you drop big money on a new one.

everyone tells me that the high pressure pumps go out all at once.I`m going to take it somewhere to have the fuel pressure tested and do a compression check,My oil pressure has been staying higher than normal before it warms up now too.Not many garages around here that are good with Cummins.
Thanks man.Hey I bought a high pressure meter that ties in to the fuel pressure signal wire.I got readings mostly at 10,500psi but it would drop to 5000psi.Any ideas what the pressure coming out to the fuel injector rails should be?
