Default Blown rear diff '98 2500--which years fit??

OK, I just picked up a 1998 Ram 2500 Diesel Auto 4x4 for a song--problem was rear end noise. He said oh it'll last for another 10K or so--no--it last about 100 miles! Oh well, as I said I got it for half blue book so I am ok.

Now though, my mechanic says the rear Diff (A Dana 70) grenaded inside the housing and ruined the housing--so no rebuild. I am trying to get out of the repair as cheap as possible since I only plan on putting about 5-7K on the truck per year--going to mtns to snowboard and camp, trips to the beach, etc etc.

So I am looking at a used unit--installed I have found a deal with new bearings at $1000 installed. I think thats probably the best I can do--however, if I find a used one for less than $600, I will save even more $$.

My question is--what years of rear diff will fit my positraction, 1998 2500 Auto 4x4. I am assuming '94-99--but will the 2000-2002 also fit?

Thanks in advance for the info!

Look forward to the forum.
