They are the same basic engine design so I don't think there are any internal issues between the 2

The 6.7 has a bunch of undesirable emissions equipment. (EGR and exhaust filter) (good for environment!)
It has a variable turbo with integrated exhaust brake. (Nice!)
power is increased in stock trim compared to the 5.9 but fuel economy is reduced significantly.
There have been a few issues with the turbo and exhaust filter on the 6.7L

Are you planning on keeping it stock?

A modified 5.9L is capable of more power and better economy than the stock 6.7L and would be cheaper due to the older truck.

Tough call. 6.7L still has a few bugs but that's not uncommon with major changes.
6.7L has better transmission options if your wanting an automatic.
Definitely something to consider.

If you can try to find a 2004.5 dodge ram 2500/3500 the 2004.5 is supposed to have more horsepower then the 2004. I don't know what its supposed to have. but the 2004 has 325 hp stock. I have 555hp 720 ft lbs of torque off my 2004 its crazy. all i have is turbo intake exhaust bully dog.
6.7 is still new cummins and its software in the computer is problems. the update i get all the time from Cummins is crazy on the 6.7. Plus with the fuel mileage loss between the 6.7 to the 5.9 is a big difference 5.9 is better
6.7 has a lot of emissions that can't be taken off has a Dfp that if you don't let it regen. when it needs to it will shut the engine down then need to be taken off and cleaned then you only get 3 trys with it then its junk. the price is $$$$$$ big money
so just get a 5.9 cummins 24v common rail and get some power adders like i did you couldnt go wrong
