Default improved suspension ?

The track bar, tie rod, and shocks are shot on my '97 2500. Since we have not had to deal with this issue before, we would like some suggestions on upgrading the suspension. I can't believe the OEM stuff didn't last past 145K. We don't 4 wheel this truck, just haul heavy loads occasionally. This is a grocery getter, but as second owners, we can't be sure of it's past. This truck is heavy (8800 lbs.), the roads here are pot hole ****, so how do we get a much stronger front end, yet decently driveable? This truck is not lifted and won't be.
Thanks for the help.
