Default 99 RAM Diesel Help?

99 Dodge 2500 Cummins diesel just died going down road. I pulled over and started truck. The check engine light is on and idles fine but has no power and starts to miss when I accelerate. Can go five miles per hour max? what is wrong with my truck?

Welcome to DF 99 Ram! Almost sounds turbo related! The Diesel Section may be able to give you better help! So I'll move this over there for ya. Good LUCK! Thanks for joining!

thanks lghtngblt02 for moving this
Ok
First lets start with fuel filter glogged?
maybe not getting fuel.
Is it black smoking when you mash the pedal with out a load on engine?

You can look into the turbo that is the easiest thing first by taking off the hoses going to the turbo stick your hand in the hole. the impeller shouldn't wabble
and should spin freely if sqeeks or stops right away or dont spin at all, blades missing or anything that don't look right the turbo is bad.
If that is ok check your fuel pressure? if your fuel pressure is ok then get it scanned and give us that code that its reading. That would be a big help.

Get your codes read first, before you try driving that truck any farther. Your symptoms are similar to your injector pump failing. That year truck is notorious for having the lift pump fail then the injector pump goes shortly after. If you get at P0216 code when you read them, its almost a guarantee that both your pumps are out.

Sounds like the classic lift pump failure followed by VP44 failure.

Try the Key method. Key on(don't start)-off-on-off-on, read codes in odometer window.

sounds like a pump is gone but why would it IDLE fine? you would think that if the pump is gone its gone
you will have to read the Codes. and see why the check engine light is on.

I also have a 99 Dodge 2500 with 24v cummings. I filled it up last Friday and when I went to leave, it idled fine, ran fine upto 1000 rpm and then using a term from a gas driver "it acted like it was running on 4 cyl.. I pulled a utility trailor home with a Kabota tractor, frontend loader, and brush hog and had all the torque to do so. However, I had to stay under 100 rpm.. I have replaced fuel filter and ended up changing the transfer pump before I could get everything bled out. I still have the same problem. Today I ran the codes and got the following.

P0251-Injector Pump Fuel Metering Control A Malfunction
P1688-Internal Fuel Injection Pump Controller Failure
P0252-Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control A Range/Performance

Sorry for the book. I'm new to the sight but I need help also. Which way should I go next.

99, that for sure sounds like an IP. More than likely you're gonna find a dead lift pump and that in turn took out your IP.

Sumosride, yours sounds like the VP's computer took a dump, not necessarilly the pump itself. Check the connectors and wiring going to the pump.

Default Any more help left.

After reading the codes yesterday, I cheched electrical connections around everything relating to the fuel system under the hood and found nothing. I also bled injectors. I did get some air out of all six injectors and was also able to verify that all were busting off. When the engine goes above 1000 rpm. it sounds just like I have left multiple injectors bleeding. I also noticed some thing else new today. I started and stoped the truck several times without the batteries being able to be fully charged. When I did allow it to run for some time, the engine began to cut out the same way at idle as the alternator cycled in and out charging the system. Can anyone give me a clear direction to go short of taking to a shop.
