Vacuum pump oil leak!!!!!!!!
Did a seal kit on a 01 2500. Accidentally knocked the seal out sliding the p/s pump in. Pulled apart and installed another 98 dollar seal kit in it. 2 weeks later it is leaking again. Last time installed new p/s pump also. Ordered a new kit from Cummins ( no one stocked locally) and one hour later it is leaking again. What am I doing wrong. It comes with instructions and followed them to the word. I the flange on the p/s pump looks fine. Is there supposed to be this much oil in the pump?
It is oil for sure. Flange on pump looks good. Can see where seal is riding. I know we dont have 3 bad seals. I know we screwed up the first one by not doing it in the correct order. I called the tech at the dealer and he was the one who told me how to do it and he has no ides.
Its mounted under the injection pump correct. has two or three studs use a 18mm wrench that is half moon shape to get it tight all the way? that is where the air compressor goes when you have air brakes are you using a metal gasket from CUMMINS? Should be metal with a orange rubber ring in the center?
I don't know the part number but i use them all the time and It only supposed to be used one way. It should say on the gasket (this side to engine) or where the part number is at that side is to engine
that housing isnt under pressure the oil just gets slung around inside it. could something else be leaking and running down. I don't know if your injection pump has a oil to it but if so it drains in the gear housing. I don't remember pulling a oil line off its been a few months since i pulled one.
when you pulled the pump off could you see oil in the gear housing? you shouldnt see any it drains into the pan if it is then the drain to the pan is clogged with something and you will have to pull the front gear housing apart. and fix it
also take the pump and run a straight edge ruler on the flange and where it mounts to on the gear housing maybe warped or bent
