buying advice
Hey guys, im looking at an 04 turbo diesel and need some advise on what to look for and pricing. It has 118k on it and i am getting it for 18k. Any thoughts and tips would be great. Also, is there a for sale section here? I cant seem to find it.
Thanks,
James

Hey James, I'm looking for my first ctd too. I've been researching now for about a month so I'm pretty familiar with what's out there. I'm just going to assume you're looking for a quad cab slt like I am which is pretty standard now days. For an '04 that seems a little on the high side for price. I'm looking for either an 06 or 07 with about 100k and I'm finding some that are in great condition for about 18k. Now of course these are private sellers but for a used vehicle I personally think that's the way to go. 18k is probably not a bad retail price but you can find some pretty good deals if you look hard enough. Good luck!
Guys i really hate to disappoint you in your search be keep looking anything over 100k for 18 is too high no matter what year it is.
I bought my 04 4x4 diesel 3500 Quad cab long bed for 21,500 with 38k on the speedo in Feb 2009 with the bully dog and husky 22k hitch. the sad part I gave him more then he wanted for it. he wanted 20k. I was being nice i guess you could say. he was a older guy couldnt get in truck anymore so he bought a f450 for 63k CASH lmao CASH. I drove him to the ford dealer they are lower to the ground.
SO KEEP LOOKING AROUND go to FL and look guys with 5th wheel campers have dodges and they are old can't climb into it anymore they buy a new one
since they are lower. the right one will find you I looked for 6 months then just so happend I typed Diesel wrong in the search engine up popped my truck.
Carisu I did find a truck out their by you in davenport a few weeks ago it was a 03 04 05 I forgot with 6speed manual 58k on speedo for 26 its a Larime leather heated seats navi green hole in bed from from kingpin. have to check the web for it i dont have the info stopped and seen it at dealer they was closed for the night it was a ford dealer

I agree 18 seems high for an '04. the stealership only offered me 15 for my '07. If you decide to buy one with over 100k make sure they give at least a 90 day warrenty. Some people trade in when they have to buy a new transmission and/ or injectors.
When the stealership offers you 15K they're gonna turn around and sell it for 18k which is exactly why when you go to buy a used truck at the stealership is is gonna cost 18k that's how they make their money. DRW trucks, especially on the used market, don't bring as much money either. I'm looking for a SRW.
In all reality, I think it's hard to compare prices based on year and mileage alone. It really makes a big difference what the previous owners used it for and how well they took care of it.
I think being in Iowa is a disadvantage for me when looking for a CTD too! Like pizzo said, Florida and Texas as well as Oklahoma have the majority of the used trucks it seems.
