Im looking for and early 2000s or 98 99 24v 5.9 ctd manual 4x4.. is there any problems i should know about . im fairly familiar with deisels and cummins i know to look at wear items like ball joint ujoints etc. i want to know if there is any major issues like powerstroke 6.0 have head problems stuff like that. and what price range should i be looking at i plan on buying one with around 100K miles and either a RC LB or EXT cab LB. thanks

the two major things with the 24v are the lift pump, and the vp44 injection pump, but there is no real easy way to tell if either one is going to die on ya, if you get one, the very first thing i would do is put a fuel pressure gauge in it. other than that, a good test drive, and possiby pull codes on it to make sure there are no death codes for the vp44

also one other thing to look at, see if there is a plug in the exhaust manifold, or in the pipe right behind the turbo, it there is, it had gauges on it at one point, and good chance it has been run hard, but some people do install gauges for the assurence factor, but very, very few. (provided, of coarse, there arnt gauges installed in it already)

The 5 speed manual transmissions sometimes have 5th gear fall off. You might inquire as to if the updated parts have been installed.
