It's not that you CAN'T use it. It's that you SHOULDN'T! The K&N has been proven to be horrible at trapping dirt for our diesel trucks. I personally use an Amsoil EA washable/reuseable filter... They are good for 4 years, or up to 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Here's a link for you...

http://www.amsoil.com/redirect.cgi?z...storefront/eaa

IMHO, it is THE best filter out there.

Stay away from the K&N. It's only a 3 layer filter and on forced induction engines, it just let's too much through.

Hold it up to the light and you can see daylight through them.

The Ea isn't bad at all, and for a drop in filter it's very good.

Now, my personal preferences, for the drop-ins are S&B and AFE. Both have very good flow, with the S&B having slightly better filtration.

For a daily driver, I say go S&B (8 layer):

PN: 66-5007D

For more of a hot rodder, I say go with AFE (7 Layer):

PN: 73-80102

If you want the Amsoil Ea filter it's:

PN: EAA189

Let me know if you want a price on any of them and we'll get you taken care of.

We have them all in stock, ready to ship.

Here's what you'll be looking at with S&B or AFE.....

The Amsoil Ea filter is a flat style, similar to the OEM filter.

Coal Train is right.. the SB and AFE drop in filters are good ones to use as well. IMHO, its about personal preference.

Default just an opinion

i have been reading this thread for a few days and decided to do a clean on my k&n model e-0776. i had about 10,000 miles on it and it was dirty all the way around the filter, but there was no dust or dirt inside the filter, the filter box, or the turbo tube. with the cleaning kit it came out very clean. i also did a check at the k&n site and this filter application is a six layer filter. we are having an auto trade show coming up in march and i am going to ask the k&n rep some more pertinent questions as per what is mentioned here.
