Default 47re lost 2nd gear

I have a 2000 dodge ram 2500 5.9 47re
lost 2nd gear. help

It's either the apply band, clutch packs or a solenoid.

Any way you look at it, it need to be torn apart.

Not necessarily... He could have bent his kickdown band strut. All he has to do is drop the pan and the VB to check for that. If that`s the case, replace the strut with an HD unit from HTS, Suncoast, Dunrite, or Goerend and readjust the band.

The only two things applied in 2nd is the forward clutch and the kickdown band. So if it was the forward clutch it would effect 1st, 3rd, and 4th gears too... Fact is, it probably wouldn`t move.

Come to think of it, before you drop the pan, run a pressure check on the kickdown servo, you could have blown a seal in that.

If not and the band is fried, it`s time for a rebuild.
