Default Need advice! Buying an 2005 2500 4X4 diesel

How solid is this truck? Is this truck going to nickel and dime me to death (had bad experiences with my 98 1500)? Most importantly, the tranny. I've read pretty decent reviews about the 48re. How many miles should I expect from stock before a tranny rebuild? How many miles are you guys getting from a beefed up rebuilt 48re from APS, PATC, etc.?

Thanks!

The truck itseft is great! My 05 3500 4x4 went without problems for 170,000, and now at 180,000 i've replaced the injection pump, injectors, front wheel bearings, rear drive shaft u-joints, front rotors & the trans. All seems to be ok now except for the front ball joint (need to replace them). Try to find a truck that has had most of this work replaced already, will save you the cost of doing it yourself!! Good luck

Thanks for the info!

The service techs were telling me today the mid year 2007 and 2008 models have the 68re with the 2008's having a lot of better design features.

Good idea of finding a truck with the wheel bearings, u joints already done $$$.
