Default new cummings

Im thinking of getting rid of my powerstroke and buying a new cummings.Ive been hearing things about the tranys having problems but its only been rumors. Does any one have one of these trucks and had any real trouble? They cost about $50k so I would like some input like MPG how do you like the power hows the jake brake? stuff like that or any more info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Trash

Default new cummins

I am doing a trade with Chrysler on my 2008 3500HD 4X4 with Cummins and 6 spd auto. The truck has 30000 miles and from 448 miles until present it has had a chugging, clunking, surging problem with either the engine or transmission. When not doing "lemon" things, the truck has been twice the truck my 2005 F250 4X4 diesel was.The jake brake and tow-haul have worked perfectly on the Dodge. The service folks at my dealership tell me the 2010 Dodge diesels are not coming into the shop like past years. I think you will like the Dodge.

First off let me say this our transmissions are built good.. But when you start adding horsepower to the engine. your first upgrade is a trans... its not that they are built weak but they are built to handle a designed Horsepower rating... buy adding 40 horsepower that is about the limit you want to go if you add more then that, You will want to add a Torque converter and Valve body...
I hear a lot of these guys coming on here I blew up my trans POS dodge weak trans.. I ask what is done to the truck. " I got 120 hp injectors, twin cp3 pumps, and running a Bully dog with TQ management turned on" All of that will tear up a stock trans pretty quick... I hope this helps oh i'm not going to bash your Ford I have never driven a Ford diesel so can't talk bad about them...

Yup you will like the cummins. Great engine, especially the 5.9L.

The 6.7L cummins(not cummings), will get crappy fuel mileage, people ae getting about 10-14mpg with the 6.7L. The 5.9L stock will get 18-20mpg on the hwy and 16ish in town. With programmers an chips the 5.9L can easily hit 25mpg. I have also heard with the 6.7L if you do the DPF delete that it helps the mileage a lot.

i have heard bad things about the 6.7L cummins fuel milage because of the DPF system and all the emission garbage but i would assume thats on the powerstroke and the duramax engines to. As for the trannys, i have a 5.9 with a 6 speed manual, lots of upgrades, tow alot of trailers, farm equipment, and i havent had a problem with mine yet. I think its all the way you drive them to how long your tranny is gonna last.

Like mentioned above... if you try building a 700 hp truck on a stock tranny, doesnt matter what kinda truck you have its gonna blow up haha

My old man has a 6.7 cummins and on a high mile trip he got 21 MPG and that was through the rockies. They don't do to bad for mileage.

My 2007 Ram 2500 with the 6.7L started out around 14 MPG. Now it gets around 16. I have been tracking my fuel consumption very closely with an Excel spreadsheet. Here's a jpg of the spreadsheet; you may have to zoom in to read it:
