Cool Temperature Guage ?? 98.5 24v

The temp guage on my 1998.5 flucuates all the time while towing my camper. Where is the sending unit or whatever controls the "temperature Guage" reading located. I changed the temp sending unit sensor located near the t-stat housing and no change. I was told this only sends information to the ECM not the actual guage.

My truck will read 240+ while towing. I've changed the t-stat and no change.

I drove the truck for over 2 hours with the guage pegged out at 240 and the motor didn't blow sky high so I figured I'm really not overheating.

I'm considering trying the "cummins" thermostat, but I really don't think that will help. (not sure though)

Any suggestions?

Thanks

What does your gauge read when the truck is cool? If the temp still comes up like normal, you may have a fan clutch or water pump that went out. If that's the case, you gauge may be reading normal and you really are that hot.

The gauge comes up like normal. With normal city no load driving, the gauge normally stays around 190 but sometime goes to about 210. I recently replaced the radiator, Water pump, and fan clutch. none of these seem to help.

I just spoke with my local cummins dealer and he said that there were two sensors that controlled the coolant temp. One near the t-stat housing (which I replaced) and another near the rear of the engine. I'm not sure where this one is located.

for $45.00 I think I might need to replace this one just to see.

ALso, I used my superchips programmer and found no Codes.

Thanks

yes, the sending unit for the gauge is located on the driver side very rear corner of the head
