Question Fuel Problem Could use help!! 2002 5.9

I have 2002 3500 5.9 Diesel, installed a new in the tank pump due to faulty sending unit last week and also changed the fuel filter. Hauling a load truck was at operating temp 190 came to stop sign pushed clutch in left off accelerator engine died, started back immediately. Driving today 30 miles away got off highway to stop light died, would not restart, crank and crank wait, crank finally started, ran for a mile died again at next light, same thing crank crank, bleed fuel lines, crank started, idle truck for 20 mins took off 1 mile died, crack lines then crank and crank started let idle, died after 15 mins ideling. Open filter housing near empty, turn key to on position does not fill up housing, crank engine over and the small pump on side of engine behind and below filter housing starts and filter housing fills. Not sure if the pump in tank should pump when ever key is on position? Would think it should, the other small pump shouldn't only pump when the engine cranks should it? Ideas? Thank you very much for your help.

More than likely you smoked the VP44 when that lift pump died.

Any codes?

Your injection pump.

The VP44 is what actually provides the pressure, timing and duration to run the egine.

It's hypersensitive to fuel pressure from the lift pump, as it provides the lubrication and cooling for the VP44.

If the lift pump dies and you continue driving the truck, it usually kills the VP44 in short order.

If it did kill the VP, you're looking at a little over a grand for a new one......or, I should say a remanufacturered one.

This is your VP44.....look above the spot I have circled for the block ID.....it's the thing where all those steel high pressure fuel line are coming from.

if you installed the in tank pump, the pump on the engine should have been removed or bypassed, was the electrical system installed to the tank for the new pump? somethings not right if you have both pumps.
