Question 98 ram 5.9l quad upper ball joint

Hi, i am new to the forum.

I recently purchased an 06 3500 turbo diesel 4x4 quad laramie, love the truck

Also have a 98 1500 2WD 5.9L Quad needing some repairs.

I saw the dyi 2WD ball joint replacement posted by dodgeram07.
Awesome pictures! My 98 1500 Quad ball joints look exactly the same as the photos provided by dodgeram07. So I thought I would try replacing my upper and lower ball joints. Lower drivers side came out with no problems.
The upper joint won't come apart due to the top hat covering over the ball joint. I didn't see any tack welds. Please advise the proper way for removal prior to pressing out the upper ball joint? Do I grind or cut out this cover piece? See attached photo of problem area.

Thanks,
coongobbler
