Default Leaking Power Steering box pitman seal

Yesterday I was driving and lost power steering. Brakes also failed. When I muscled the car to the shoulder and downshiftdr I finally got my 05' 2500 diesel to stop. Trucks been great has 80,000 miles. True workhorse. I quickly noticed that the leak was coming from the seal which the pitman arm connects to. It appears as if the power steering pump supplies pressure to the brake booster. Could this be? Can the seal be replaced by seperating the tie rod form the pitman, then pulling the pitman arm, and leaving the steering box connected to the frame? or is this just wishful thinking? I live in a flood zone near the seashore so I am sure that the seal failed becuase it rotted out. I have read the 3 other posts dealing with leaking steering box seals but none of them discussed the actual seal replacement.Thanks-Keith
