turbo doesn't whistle
I'm fairly new to the diesel world, but I'm working on a 93 Cummins L6 turbo.
I can't figure out why the turbo doesn't whistle like normal. Intake appears clean. Impeller freespins for several seconds after engine is turned off. No difference with/without air filter. No black smoke from exhaust (except on initial start-up), yet decent pressure out of tail-pipe. In reading a few other threads, it seems that perhaps the air tube from the turbo to the intake could be dirty. What do ya'll think?

the first gens, dont have map slots in the compressor housing, the turbos with map slots make a lot more noise, the first gens are also turned down a lot and have large exhaust housings, so they dont make much boost
so basically if its possible? which i dnt knw if it is or not. but get a turbo offof a second gen. and take out the turbo silencer and shove it on there. like i said. i dnt know if the turbo housings or mounts are the same? but im sure someone could tell u.
kind of... everything will bolt up and it is a good upgrade, but the exhaust housing is an inch longer, so the downpipe needs to be modified to gain the clearence
