Default Receiver hitch....weak?

So I was installing my new B&W gooseneck hitch recently and was looking at the factory receiver hitch while I was under there. It sure doesn't look like it is strong enough to handle 1 ton pickup duties. If I would have made it it would have been made out of much thicker iron (but then again I farmer engineer everything bigger, thicker, heavier is always better). Has anybody had any problems with the factory hitch? I pull some trailers that have rediculous tongue weight occasionally so I am concerned for the safety of me and anybody on the road along with me.

Most hitch's have their ratings etched into the side somewhere. I'd take a look and double check, but I'm pretty sure yours will be rated the same as mine. Even though you have a 1 ton and I have a 3/4 ton, I think they used the same hitch. If I were going to be pulling more than 10K, I'd be using a fifth wheel or goose neck set up.

My 09 3500 came with a class 5, 2.5 inch reciever. I have 2.5 inch bars for both the 2" and 2 5/16 ***** but use a reducer when using the weight distrubuting hitch. After only 10K miles, the pin holes in the reciever were egg shaped with a fair amount of slop. Talked to a local hitch installer and they simply welded hardened steel washers to both sides. Said that this is a common problem, and a common fix. Think I paid $40 for the fix so didn't even bother with the dealer.
