Default Oil change

I read that over oiling a diesel engine is actually good for it, im just curious exactly how much oil I should be putting in the next time I do an oil change? and also next time I do an oil change I was planning on putting in amsoil full synesthetic, good idea bad idea? And also curious about what everything thinks the best oil for the 5.9 cummins would be and why

I just run the called for 10+1 in the filter.
no need for any additives as it's still a CI-4+ oil.

I'm leery of additives anyway... how would the additive company know how their product is going to react with every brand of oil out there since everyone has a proprietary formula for their additives - some may be very close to each other, but there are differences. Also... just what exactly is the additive company putting in their package?
