Default thinking about a 2000 2500 diesel

I am about to replace my old f250 and I was thinking about a 2000 2500 diesel. One concern that I have is about automatic transmissions. It seems to be almost impossible to find a manual anymore but I have never really trusted autos especially in a diesel that pumps out a lot of power. Have you guys had any problems with the autos in these trucks? I won't be towing a lot of weight but I will always be towing my 6x12 enclosed trailer with about 1000-1500lbs of stuff in it so maybe 3000 total tops. And I drive about 2500 miles per month.

I've got a 2001 and have had quite a bit of trouble out of the auto- they do seem to be somewhat weak. Upgrading them is posssible but not cheap.

i am a horse power abuser... and i will never buy another auto, they can be built to take abuse but it costs a lot of $$$ and a manual will always out last an auto no matter what the cause

I would go for a 5 or speed you cant go wrong. Look on ebay you will find mountains of them. I know on my uncles 1 ton cummins with an auto trans its still ok. I use it to tow a 10,000lb. boat and with 92,000 miles its still runnin strong. I have a manual tranny on mu 98 1/2 ton and with 131,000k shes still screamin.
