Default DPF delete, now black smoke

I did the dpf delete a couple of weeks ago and installed the Smarty Jr. Now black smoke comes out of the tailpipe at regular intervals, not just while I am getting on the throttle. On the expressway, very black smoke comes rolling out at 3 minute intervals. Is the fact that all the sensors are disconnected on the exhaust, including the O2 sensor?

So you took your particulate filter off and you are wondering why the truck smokes? Do you know what the DPF is for?

I'm not worried about black smoke when I get on it. I am just wondering why it comes out every 3 minutes. I have driven enough older diesels to know what it looks like when you hammer down and smoke comes out of the tailpipe. But this is different, very dark, sooty looking smoke.

Sounds like your truck may be dumping too much fuel. What year is your truck? I can move this to the proper diesel section so you can get better help

I'm not too familiar with the Smarty products, but are you sure you turned off DPF regens? Sounds like it might be trying to regen itself.

Finally figured out the problem. I installed the Smarty programmer and deleted the the DPF. Problem was that I had not yet physically deleted the EGR and EGR cooler. The programmer had already deleted them on the computer.

Now that I deleted the EGR, the truck runs great, and there has been no black smoke for 700 miles.

@stickcfd...so does it automatically disable the EGR and DPF when you install the ECm update software? I just got a Smarty Jr and I cannot find the DPF/EGR disable on the programmer. I have downloaded and installed most recent software update for the smarty jr from MADS website.

I bought the Smarty Jr. that had the Middle East (off road only) software already installed when it arrived. I did not have to download any further software from my computer. That is why I ran into the smoking problem. The software had already deleted the DPF and EGR, but I had only physically deleted the DPF.
