Default Ram 2500 ?s

Im in the process of purchasing an 03 ram 2500 w/cummins diesel and was wondering what I should be looking for for in the way of red flags. The truck has 165000 miles on it nice and clean but I have never owned a diesel. The water pump was recently replaced about a month ago but in chatting with the seller his wife said that was the 2nd waterpump in a year, should I be worried that the truck has a problem or has been overheated? Any help would be appreciated thanks.

I'm gonna move this to the CTD section, very few of us in the 3rd Gen have diesels and last I owned one was almost 15 years ago...

well as far as being overheated you will have to look at the motor to see that it will have like almost a cooked look to the valve cover and the only other thing i have heard about that year is the trans have had problems but there is problems in others too so that maybe a problem it just depends on how abused it was like towed alot of chips or stuff like that
