intake
hey guys got my clutch done and havent driving the truck that much yet but it is alot better then the old stock one and i have been thinking that sometime in the future i want to put an air intake on my truck and i think the other thing is called the intake tube not totally positive if thats what it is called. so my question to you guys is what brands do you find that work the best? im looking for more fuel mileage then anything else. so any info would help thanks guys
It is my understanding that the stock intake system is as good as any aftermarket one you can buy unless you are starting to push 500hp or more. Also a Dodge tech friend has told me that on engine related warranty claims they have been instructed to look for "dusting" if the stock intake system has been replaced. If dusting is found and it relates to the claim, the claim maybe denied. An interesting article about intakes can be found in the tech section of the PSM diesel web site.

I have an 08 ram with the 6.7 CTD. I want to put a K&N cold air intake on it but the dealer told me if they find "dusting" in the engine that it will void the factory warranty. They told me that the 6.7 creates a lot more suction than the 5.9 and that causes the intake to pull in dust. How is this possible when K&N filters filter down to a very low micron, and they are impregnated with oil???? They also Tolstoy me that they have seen filters crushed by the suction. Personally I think they are full of crap. Can someone let me knOw abou this. All this factory crap is choking out the true potential of my CTD. I am also in a smog exempt county in California, so I am adding 5inch exhaust with the dpf delete kit as well.

I wouldn't put a K&N on.
Of course, I want my truck to last. The K&N (and most other "high performance") lets more air through because it isn't filtering as well. Those small particles are the ones that cause the majority of the wear. I'm a bit crazy though, I'm running a bypass oil filter and an Airdog, both of which filter the oil/fuel down to about 2 microns absolute - to get rid of those particles that cause the most wear in the engine.

Yeah, I've got an S&B intake. A week after getting my truck I got rid of the emissions stuff and the shop I dealt with included it in their "package".
Would I buy it again, knowing what I know now? No, I'd pull the cross out of the intake tube and call it good, put the money elsewhere.
As far as the boost tube (intercooler to intake horn), no I'm not running one yet. I took the butterfly out of the EGR chunk of the pipe, I removed the heater grid, and I gasket matched the intake elbow and heater grid plate.

Beats me. I should probably pull my filter out and check out the tube. It's been on the truck for about 11 months now, almost 23k miles.
According to S&B, it filters 99.81% in the ISO course dust test. They don't say how it does with fine dust.
