2003 common problems
Hey guys I've had a 1999 gasser for a while now and am well versed in their problems. I am currently looking at a 2003 2500 turbo diesel with a 6speed. What should I be looking for? Im sure there's a thread on here already but search engine sucks and the other threds usually aren't specific to certain years. Thanks in advance for the help. And if you're on the eastern side of the country stay cool.
Do not even consider the purchase of a truck with an engine provided by Dodge made after 2004. The 24 Valve turbo engine from 1999 until 2004 was not under EPA mandate!
You would not like or enjoy the cost and problems owning any model produced after 2004.
I can tell you I know all the problems which have come into play because of the EPA.
I love my 2000 5.9 and would not even consider having anything to do with what the gov-mint has caused as far as diesel trucks today.

Read what you said, yes the 03 and 04 were the same engine. The 05 began the reburning of crank case waste which induces moisture and other nasty products which ruin the injectors big time.
How can my statement be ridiculous, go to your local bosch dealer who supplies lift pumps and injector systems and ask about the EPA and diesel engines.
Good luck with the 2008 it may not have a cummins engine but it still mucks up the system, see above.
