Default Buy with or without a lift

Hey guys,
I am looking to buy a used 2006 or early 2007 cummins crew cab 4x4 from Warrentonselect.com in Va. I need advice. I want the truck lifted. If I buy a truck with out a lift I will prob have to wait a bit to lift it so I am thinking of buying one that already has a lift. Do you guys think it`s a good idea to buy one already lifted or no? It seems like they are raiseing the price about the right amount for the lift, tires and wheels. Thoughts?

You ball the lift into your auto loan and you'll be paying a considerable amount more for the lift than doing it after the fact, but you won't have to save up front or put it on a credit card.

Personally though, I don't think it's worth the hassle getting a lift. I've done it before on a couple other rigs, but unless you're going to actually wheel it, lifting seems a lot like excess chrome or a chameleon paint job - look at me look at me. Factor in the headaches it causes to ball joints, track bars, death wobble, etc. and it just isn't worth it.

I've never owned a lifted truck, and was considering lifting my truck when I bought it last year. Like Horiatio has said, the DW potential really bothered me. The truck is solid. It has descent ground clearance, and it gets 'good' fuel mileage comparitively.

Lifting it destroys much of that. And I cannot park in underground parking anymore.. the wife would NOT like that. <lol>

I would recommend going for the stock height and then just putting a level kit in the front. You gain the 3" plus save a load of cash. I got mine from KORE (the best kit on the market) for only $350, and it took about 3 hrs to put in myself. And for the DW threat, well I had it harsh before I put the level in, so it's not always the lift that causes it.

No, it's not the lift that causes DW - it's worn suspension parts (bushings, TREs, etc) that cause it, but bigger tires/wheels that usually get added with a big lift greatly amplify the effects.

I do not agree with that Horatio. I've seen virtu@lly brand new trucks with DW, so I cannot accept they are worn.. but of course they did not have a lift either. I've also seen lifted Rams with no issues.

Maybe its because most people lift 'older' trucks which are worn, and thats where the problems are most likely to show up.

I dunno..

Interesting, I've never seen new-ish stock trucks suffer from DW without some sort of modification - hitting a hard curb/pothole or otherwise mucking up the suspension.
