CAI is pretty much worthless until you start hitting the 500HP mark (and above). The stock setup flows fairly well and filters better than most CAIs.

I agree w kenz. And horatio i kinda agree and kinda dont agree. Lol. I took my stock intake off and put a bhaf on. A freigtliner conversion. And love it. It breaths alot more. It sucks more air and i notice the diff. Im only runnin about 280hp. I feel it responds better. Compared to that little hole in the fender lol. But as for cai. Its not really a cai on most apps cause its not sucking cold air Its still somewhat close to the engine and it sucks alot of the engine heat in. My buddy and i have done some tests on like the k&n cai and it doesnt do anything good. Lol. Sounds cool tho. But im not sayin your wrong. Just what ive found out in some of my tests and experiments. Just my 2cents. Im deff all ears for input tho. :-).

You're talking about an older 2nd gen though, I was responding to the post before mine where it was said that the 3rd gen 5.9 HPCR trucks respond well to a CAI, which isn't really true. The stock setup on 3rd gens is actually quite good.

I can't blame you for not liking the computerized stuff. I hate ABS/Stability Control/Traction Control/TPMS/Electronic Throttle/Computerized nannies that prevent us from really driving our vehicles.

Being able to hit a button and jump from 350 crank horsepower to 500 wheel horsepower is nice though.

A friend dyno'd his 05 and made ~490 hp at the tires with stock airbox, stock turbo, stock injectors, a big exhaust stack and a Smarty programmer.

H&S's test mule 6.7 truck made about the same power with 4" turbo-back exhaust, egr/dpf deletes, their programmer, and some form of CAI.

On a 6.7 all it takes is a programmer, deletes, good lift pump, and exhaust.
