Default Surging Problem

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 3500. Since the late fall it has been surging when it idles and it has been getting progressively worse... it is fine when I am driving it. However, when I come to a stop it surges to the point where I think it's going to stall. Also, at the stop when I apply the accelerator to get going again it hesitates and takes a bit to power up. I recently got an oil change and changed the air filter and the fuel filter was changed in the early fall.
Further, just two weeks ago my charging gauge hit way to the left and my Check Engine light came on. I left it started at about 1100 RPMs thinking that it may charge back up, and it overheated. Replaced coolant. Then it wouldn't start and had to be jump started. It has been fine since, but the surging problem still exists.
My friend put it on his puter and the code P2607 undefined came up.
I don't want to take it into a garage just yet because they see a female come in and think they can pull the wool over your eyes.
Can anyone help me with these issues, please and thank you?

I will move this to the diesel section.

Go to your local auto parts store and ask if they can load test your batteries. Disconnect your batteries and test them individually - sounds like you might have one going bad.
