First time diesel owner questions
I finally traded my HEMI in on a CUMMINS, and am loving it. I do have a few questions though since this is my first diesel and my first full size 4x4. First I would like to know what is recommended as a fuel additive that will help with keeping the injectors in good working order since I have read that that can be a problem. Second I am having a clicking noise coming from the front end and am thinking it is the u joints, am I right in thinking so, or might it be another problem? Lastly I have heard things about the transmission being a weak link, would adding a transmission cooler extend the life or are there any other options I should look into.
Thanks
Thanks
To help your injectors use a Baldwin PF7977 fuel filter in the stock fuel housing then add an in line 2 micron fuel filter, as for additives your choice, Power Service, Howe's, Opti Lube, 2% bio, 2 cycle oil. As for the Tran its only a weak link if you increase the power aka use a programmer, don't service it every 30-40K or use the wrong tans fluid.
Kris,
all the things that DBLR said:
my 2005 has 54K miles, this last year i did the coolant change, I had the trans oil changed at 42K as that was the miles it had when i got the truck.
so far, my 2005 model has been a good truck,
things i would like to improve, if i knew how,
the headlights were an after thought, at night the lights are ok on dim with the fog lights, but on bright the light are a disappointment, to be truthful I would say almost unsafe, as they are so dim.
my truck has wind noise around the driver door, even with added insulation i have not cured that little problem
but other than these two problems, the truck runs good, get great fuel mileage for a big heavy truck and does not know how much it can pull.
good luck with your truck.
also note: there are no grease zerks on the front end, so at 100k you should start looking at replacing some parts. Now, just how much would a few little grease zerks have added to the cost of a big heavy dodge truck.
my old chevy 2000 model 3/4 ton may not have been a great truck, but at 100k it still drove as well as it did new, because it came with grease zerks and was properly greased.
