Default Transmission not shifting

I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 3500 5.9L Diesel dually automatic, I think it's the 47re. Yesterday the transmission quit shifting. It acts like it's stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear, not sure which (2000 rpms @ 47 mph). It doesn't shift down and doesn't shift up. Also the cruise control quit working at the same time. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. One other thing. will driving at about 2000 rpm @ 47 mph, if I shift into second or first, there is no change in speed or rpm's.

P.S. The fuel pump went out in it 2 weeks ago. Not this

Thank you

Tim

Default update

last night it felt like it was taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear. Just drove it to work....didn't have a choice. it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear, but doesn't shift out of 2nd gear, and the cruise control still doesn't work. Checked the fluid level and that checks out fine. All the fuses and relay's check out fine also. If I can isolate wether it is electrical or machanical, i should be able to fix it. I also hooked it up to a scan which didn't produce any codes. Just old codes from the fuel pump which I just deleted.

Sounds electrical to me - limp mode. I'd check for any grounds disconnected.

checked all the grounds that I could fined, all looked good. I do have a small engine oil leak, which got on the TR sensor, and got into the connection. I cleaned the connection up and put some dialectic grease in the connection. I'm still in limp mode (not shifting out of 2nd gear). But now the cruise control indicator light won't come on, where as before it did.

I had a problem similar to this where it wasn't shifting out of first. I got a couple error codes indicating bad sensor data. I opened up the transmission pan, replaced the two sensors in there and it worked fine after that.

Are you getting any error codes? (turn the key into the on position 3 times and the codes appear in the odometer)

Finally got a hold of a good code reader. 3 codes P0123 Throttle Position Sensor voltage high, P1596 Speed Ctrl Switch Always Hi, and P0700 Transmission Fault. I've also have had the Lamp Out light come on a couple times, then go out. All my lights are working. About ready to take to the shop.

Head into your local auto parts store and get both of your batteries tested individually.

When mine would shift and seems stuck in 3rd gear, to fix the problem the trans guy replaced valve body, transducer & solenoid.

Default Truck fixed

I finally got my truck back today......The first shop I took it to couldn't figure it out after a week and a half. And this was after changing the TPS and the TCM. and charging me $1,500. Lesson learned...never again. Took it to the dealer and they had it fixed in a day for $103. There was a bad connection that plugged into the PCM.

Thank you for all your input.

Tim
