Default Poor man's FASS or AIRDOG

Yes, I'm working on a poor man's FASS/Airdog lift pump. I've seen it on other forums, but not here at DF... this Cummins forum seems weak.... anyways being the DF diehard that I am I decided to start this thread. Please let me know what you think, or if you have your own poor mans's FASS system!

I just can't see shelling out over $500 for FASS system... for a pump, filters, and wiring...

so here's what I'm going to be doing.

I'm sticking with the 3/8" fuel line for now because I'm too lazy to drop my tank to install a draw straw.... an upgrade to a 1/2" line would be simle though..

Here's the order:

I will splice into the fuel supply line a close to the tank as possible. From what I've seen, it's better to "suck" the fuel thru the filters to protect the pump... not sure about this as most systems I've seen pushes the fuel thru the filters... anyone have an opinion on this?

From the tank, thru filter, thru pump the running new fuel line to the stock filter to bypass the stock lift pump.

The fittings are simple. A new barbed banjo fitting to accept my 3/8" fuel line, a few 3/8" barb/npt fittings to tie the pump and filters together, and a few clamps to hold it all in place.

Here's the cost:

Holley Black Lable pump $107
Dual Head Filter $84
Misc hose/fitting/filters $99.55

Fittings, filters, and hose where priced from http://www.vulcanproducts.com

Fuel pump was found at Jegs, but ebay proved to be cheaper

Dual head fuel filter head from ebay.

I hope to do this before fall. ZGoing to start gathering my parts a little at a time.

Let me know what you think!

installed a fuel pressure gauge today and found out my stock lift pump was weaker than I expected. I was showing 7psi at idle and would bottom out down to 3psi under load...

SO... I ordered my parts for my Poor man's FASS!

I'm on a budget and decide not to add the aux filters for now. They can be spliced in at a later time.

I ended up ordering a Holley Black fuel pump on ebay (new) for $107 w/free shipping
and a Vulcan relocation/upgrade kit. $138.85 after shipping.

I'm sticking with the 3/8" line because I don't plan on adding a ton of power.

The vulcan kit comes with enough hose to run from the tank to injector pump! It removes the restrictive banjo style fittings and upgrades to full 3/8"... you can also get the 1/2" kit for the same price. I just don't think I need it with my mainly stock (superchips 3855) truck. I will be doing a DIY once I install!

I was searching for Poor Man's Diesel because they sell a remote filter kit on eBay like you are trying to build for $140 with filters and ended up here. I thought their kit plus a Walbro would give me something like the Fass/AirDog for half the money. Anybody heard about or bought anything from Poor Man's Diesel?
