Default Duramax vs Cummins

I have a 2002 2500 hd 4x4 ext cab sb. duramax/allison 55,000miles. Empty I get good mileage 15 city and 18 hwy but towing my 5er 7,000lbs I get 10-12 mpg at 60mph. When I hookup my 2,000 lb trailers I still only get around 13 to 14 mpg anyway I took a 2005 4x4 cc sb 2500 diesel for a ride the other day and was finally empressed with a dodge truck. Can ya tell me if the dodge diesel gets better fuel mileage especially towing the small trailers. Thanks L.D.

Default RE: Duramax vs Cummins

my last load I pulled I estamated at about 8K and I was hitting about 14or so and that was doing 65. there were times I wasnt paying attention to my speedo and actidently hit 75 unloaded I'm getting about 18-19 and if I'm easy on her I'll get right at 20, this even with 4.10 gearings.

the main thing I dislike about the Duramax is that the internals of the engine arent beefy enough to handle what the engine is putting out so the life of the engine is compromized to achieve this, the Ford is even worse. I posted a pic comparing the pistons and rods of the big three's diesels. the Cummins parts are massive compared to the other two. Also being an inline 6 you have fewer parts and fewer things to go wrong. plus the engines are easy to work on
