Default Wondering about injectors 04 Dodge Diesel 3500

I'm new to the forum, so I hope I am posting this question in the right forum. My 3500 diesel, 4x4 has not been starting. We have checked batteries, changed fuel filter, and had it plugged in to keep warm...that's what seemed to work in the past but this time it will not start. Cranking but not turning over. We live in a remote area and diesel mechanics are few and far. Any suggestions? We wonder if we should just sell it but have really loved this truck!

first check for trouble codes and post them up.

you can pull codes by cycling your key in the ignition on-off-on-off-on (within 5 seconds) and leave it on without starting it. codes will then be displayed on the odometer. post the codes on here and we can tell you what they mean.

Also you may want to check your lift pumps fuel pressure.

do you have an auto parts store around like oreillys or similar?

if so, go borrow a fuel pressure test gauge and test the fuel pressure coming into your cp3 pump (injection pump) if it has no fuel pressure coming from the tank to the pump, then that will be a big issue related to crank but no start. no fuel, no start..

The best way to check the lift pump is with a pressure guage, but you can also put a container on the filter drain, open the drain valve, bump the starter but do not start. The pump should run for about 25 seconds and you should get one quart or more fuel in the container.

If the lift pump is working and there is no codes then the most likely problem is low rail pressure. If the ECM does not see a pressure of 3000 psi (or there about) it will not fire the injectors. The most common problem for a no start is the injectors are leaking back the fuel pressure to the tank.

I do not recommend the use of ether to start the engine as it can cause damage to the engine and it could explode in the intake manifold, ignited by the grid heater. If the engine runs well after starting, you need to pull the injectors and have them tested. If they are out of spec, replace with new injectors, most have problems with remans. Bad injectors can do major damage to the engine.
