Trucked stalled, engine reved, check engine light comes on with no codes
I'm hoping someone may be able to lead me in the right direction...
I have a '99 Ram 2500 with various issues.
Sometimes I'll be sitting there and the engine will rev on it's own several times and then check engine light will come on.
Other times the RPM's will drop to 0 (as I'm driving down the road) and the check engine light will come on and usually the RPM's will come back up after various lengths of time.
Today, I was going about 15 and the engine just shut off. I pulled over and turned all the electric off, started the truck and didn't have trouble the rest of the day.
There's days when I have no problems at all. Then other times one of the above things will happen after a few moments of running or several hours of running. There just doesn't seem to be anything in particular.
I've tried pulling the codes out but as soon as I turn off the engine and key, the check engine light goes out and when I hook the computer to it, the computer says it has no codes.
Anyone have any ideas?

go to a local auto parts store and borrow a fuel pressure tester and test the fuel pressure going into your injection pump...
if its less than 10psi even while driving and flooring the throttle, your lift pump and fuel filter both need replaced.
it sounds like your injection pump is starving for fuel and sometimes it gets a gulp and anti-stall revs the engine to keep it from dying, and other times it just doesn't get the fuel it needs and stalls out.

I guess I should have said the tachometer. Cause the engine will still be running and the tach will read 0.
Now today I started having transmission problems with it also. Wouldn't shift above I believe it was 3rd gear.
Any thoughts?

oh...yeah would have been good to have that bit of info..
sounds like either loose wiring somewhere or a failing PCM.
I would make a post about it on cumminsforum and get a second opinion though as I'm just making a guess here...
you will definitely get a faster answer over there as that forum is dedicated to just dodge cummins trucks and is broken up by generation/engine.
