Default No Error Codes?

I have a new(to me) 2005 Ram 3500 cummins dually and decided to look to see if there were any error codes displayed. So I did the key sequence to bring up the codes and the mileage display went from mileage to 5(or 6) dashes for a number of seconds and then eventually went back to displaying the mileage. Also after about 30 seconds the "engine" symbol appeared on the display.
Does this indicate no errors found?

Thanks

Fred

Well if your truck isnt started and the key was in the on position then its normal for the check engine light to come on.

I guess I was more wondering about the display only showing dashes. Is what you normally see when there are no error codes?

Thanks
