Default Big power steering issues with 2011 ram on gravel road

Good day everyone,

Long story short, everytime I go on a rough gravel road (ya it has some bumps and holes) the power steering and brake fails. It's the third time the dealer changes the hydroboost and pump. Can't keep this up, anything else can be wrong here?

no leaks anywhere?

maybe just get a high output pump and make sure all of the air is bled out of the lines...

I dunno what they changed on those newer trucks, but I have never had an issue like that in my late 2nd gen. over 200k mi;es on it and still has the factory hydroboost. bout to change to a high output PS pump though to improve steering from a stop with big tires...

Well started the truck yesterday after leaving it sit all night and everything works fine now. I guess that with all the vibrations the system sucked air from somewhere, but this shouldn't happen every time I ride on rough roads. Last time I lost powersteering and brakes comming back from the cottage which is 60km of gravel road and 10 km of offroading (mud pits, rocks, sand, water, roots) Anybody tryed offrading without powersteering and brakes? It's f****** frustrating.

I bet. maybe try changing the fluid to something else?

I run the valvoline PS fluid (the stuff WITHOUT stop leak in it...it's just a clear fluid)

I say this because maybe the fluid you run gets really bubbly and cloudy/full of air from the bumps/vibration causing air to enter the lines and cause hydraulic issues. a different fluid might help resist that?

honestly I'm just guessing and throwing out ideas. only time I've had PS issues was when my pump was screaming because fluid was too low due to a PS leak I recently fixed.

Damn it, I take back what I previously said i the last post. Took the truck out for work this morning, did about 50 feet when I got to the first stop sign, no more power steering and brake were very week. Well back to the dealer for the 1?? th time.

JIGABOP, thanks for the advice, I will ask the tech to use different oil when he replaces hydroboost and pump for the third time.
