Default Transmission problems

I have a 2004 ram 2500 5.9 auto trans. Everything has been great with the truck until a few days ago. I was at the end of my 8 hr trip in heavy traffic and noticed when slowing down the trans would downshift harder than normal. I thought it may been heat related but this morn it done the same thing when it was cool. I have plenty of fluid, looks a little light red but doesn't smell burnt. It has 140k miles on it and about 40k on the fluid. Any ideas on the hard shifting?
