Smile New 2013 Cummins Ram replacing 08

Yesterday I picked up my new 13 2500 4x4 Cummins Ram. Wow--The engineers have really been awake over the past 5 years. My first impression is I stunned by the new milage! I never broke 17 mpg in the 08. The 13 starting at 35 miles ran 21-22 at 70 mph. I'll trade exhaust fluid all day for the terrible 08 DPF regen! The truck turns 1600-1700 RPM at 70!

Where you purchase makes a huge difference. I drove 8 hours to James O'Neill Dodge in Ga. They smoked the best, final/final/final/final offers in Florida.

I wish I hadn't read your post.

I had an '08 that I loved, but because it never got over 17mpg, and I no longer needed to tow, I sold it in 2011.

9 months ago, I went out and purchased a '13 1500 V6 pentastar, to have a truck, but get good mileage.

Now I see I could have gotten within a few MPG of the V6 with the new DEF Cummins......

I'm now looking for a discounted 2013 cummins that I might trade for without losing my butt....!!

you could have always deleted the DPF and EGR on the 08 and gained 4-6mpg right there...

I know WA has adopted CA emissions, but I don't know if CA is running emissions tests on 07 and newer diesel rigs... WA has them emissions exempt (for now) as well as all diesel vehicles with a registered weight of under 6500# are exempt from emissions. (so of course my truck has to pass emissions which it does with a smarty programmer to seriously detune it)

but if CA isn't running tests, you could get away with it lol

I was about to do the DPF delete.... but CA does inspect diesels now.

In fact, on a new gas vehicle, you don't have to worry about the biannual smog inspections for 8 years.... however, I got my 1st smog notice on my '08 diesel with my 2010 renewal notice.

I just didn't want to deal with the whole take the dpf on & off crap.....

I hear ya there...

One of the many reasons I just fix my 2000 and keep it in good shape they can inspect all they want...the vehicle never originally came with a cat, DPF, or egr. one of the few cummins years that came with zero emissions controls and was able to pass emissions no sweat.

I tried the EGR & DPF delete by purchasing a Smarty Senior 6.7 Cummins programmer. I paid $750 for the Smarty, EGR kit and bypass pipe. Then paid $300 to remove the parts and install the Smarty. The truck ran fantastic for 10 miles then set off 6 engine codes. We downloaded multiple updates but no luck! The truck computer shut the engine down by indicating the PDF was full. I had no truck for 3 weeks with the Texas diesel dealer helping until it was hopeless, then told me I was negligent for not reading the instructions stating the tuner many not work.

Smarty on the west coast at first responded but now are silent. I had to spend another $400 to have the parts reinstalled. My loss? $1,450 plus no truck for almost a month!

people have had great success with H&S delete programmers, and I believe EFI-Live might make one as well for the early 6.7L engines.
