2003 5.9l cummins cranks but no start
I have replaced the FCA, fuel filter and both batteries. Cleaned terminals. Codes present are:
P0480
P0483
P2509
I can here the fuel pump hum after I bump the starter. I'm assuming the grid heater is working it clicks when the Wait to start light goes out and the dome light gets brighter. I know the check engine light comes and stays on until you start it. Now it stays for a few seconds then flashes a few seconds then stays on.
After I replaced the FCA I put some diesel kleen filled the tank drove it 10 miles. Got up for work and only crank. Sprayed some brake clean into air cleaner to see if it will start or at least try to start and still nothing. If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

1. don't ever spray starting fluid or flammables into the intake!
You have a grid heater between the intake horn and the intake manifold. that grid heater can ignite the flammable outside of the engine and make it go boom!
diesels do not ever need starting fluid to start unless your compression is ridiculously low like the 2000hp sigma pumped sled pullers or drag racers...
2. your codes.
first two have to do with the clutch fan.
the first of the two says it is basically unplugged
the second has to do with fan speed.
the last code P2509 is your problem causing the no start condition.
P2509: ECM/PCM Power Input Signal Intermittent
basically that is saying your engines computer is not getting enough power to operate. No computer, no start. plain and simple. your fuel injectors are 100% computer controlled. no computer, no fuel injected PERIOD.
Check your battery cables. Check your grounds, and load test the batteries.
more than likely your batteries are too weak after the grid heaters come on to provide 12v to the ECM. cold weather is likely exposing this weakness. load test them to be sure, but if voltage is dropping below 12v with the grid heater on, the batteries are junk or you have a bad connection to them. Fix that and I bet she fires right up!
