which tuner is best for Cummins engines?
I would like to buy a tuner yes my 03 is stock without a tuner. I was thinking the Smarty tuner but was wondering what the consensus was on the best tuner? I am not looking for gobs of power this is my daily driver and I drive it 46 miles each way to work 5 day a week. That being said the occasional need to "smoke" someone does arise. I do pull trailers but stock power has always been enough for the loads I'm hauling. I'm averaging 20 to 21 MPG highway and my goal is 25. So I'm installing 50hp new injectors (see my 03 starting problems thread) and was thinking since I'm in ordering mode I would finally get a tuner. I like the fact that Smarty can read codes (not sure what else can) Just looking for some good advice before I make the purchase.
Thanks

89-98 = craftsman or snap-on tools (100% mechanical injection)
98.5-02 = Quadzilla Adrenaline w/Pulse or edge drag comp, or TS MVP + TST Comp stack
03-05 = Smarty
06-09? = EFI-Live
10-12 = H&S Mini MAXX
13+ = ???

Received my Smarty S-06 POD this weekend. Have not had time to upload it yet. Don't you hate it when life gets in the way of having fun? Will do it this week and let you know how it works. there are so many choices, what is a good starting point?
I have the 6 speed manual. I think it is the NV5400? This is a daily driver so I want it to last as long as possible. I want as many MPG's as possible. I used to get 20 mpg then put in new +50 injectors and lost 3 mpg. Hoping they come back once new injectors are seated in? I don't care about smoke. I'm not opposed to changing settings, one for daily driving, one for pulling / horsing around.

ok her it is 0 for mpg and halfpower 1 for boost fooling(smoke) i wouldent go past a 4 on your tranny for horsing around and pulling and espessaly pulling because your drivetrain is already under stress. but if u ever must they say 5 is safe but thats a lot of torgue and power

Also I was thinking of going to 60hp gain and trying to run it at 3 or 4 to start and adjust from there what do you think?
upgrade your clutch and stronger gears and shafts and transfer case and it will hold up and is a great drive train i have a cummins to actually 2 but when u start adding power remember thats a great strong motor and will rip the hell out of anything so its worth the extra money to be safe
