Default Ram 3500 turbo

I think my turbo just went out? Performance was sluggish and acceleration was in and out while in cruise. Started puffing black exhaust and quickly got worse from there!!!! Computers went out 2 years ago, 4th gear shattered 1 year ago and now this.

Never owned a 6.7 but when I google your issue, I come up with the following:

"turn off your EGR" ....................soot build up, or you need a cleaning

"j35 Regen recall"............. I'm assuming for excessive soot, and carbon build up associated with EGR.

*threads associated with VGT vanes seizing from exhaust gas carbon
*thread or two about a bad batch of turbos manufactured Aug. 07.

You're showing 370k, but I always heard you had to work a 6.7 like a mule. I could be wrong, don't shoot the messenger. I always like what is commonly said on here.............Google is your friend. K.

have you pulled codes yet?

Those VGT's will throw codes if they are not working properly.

also Checked for boost leaks?

Usually when a turbo goes out you will know it by the nasty grinding sound lol. as long as there is fuel and drive pressure, that turbo will move air.

Default Not EGR

Mechanics replace EGR and upper (pre-cat/conv.) exhaust gas temperature and still blew black smoke. Telling me cat/conv. plugged along with tail pipe filters (is what they called exhaust system past converter). I had turbo tapped and purged (fluid injection) in 2009. Any suggestions? Could MAF create same problem? Mechanic suggest delete system, but don't want to spend money if that's not the problem!!!!

Confused!!!!

The EGR system is a nightmare. It doesn't matter which manufacturer, if you've got soot going through some sort of grid in a pipe, it's going to accumulate and clog up. We've done several already this week on the 6.7 Fords.

The vanes in your turbo could be plugged up. Your cat (but more likely your dpf- diesel particulate filter) is probably plugged up. Verify what the problem is before throwing money at it.

How many miles have you put on the truck since 2009? 5 years is plenty long enough to clog it up.

PS, I've owned an 08 6.7 and I'm familiar with the issues.
