Default Fuel saving mod suggestions?

I bought a 2007 Ram 6.7 that already had the dpf delete done to it. It also has a tuner (Edge).

I was looking at getting a larger exhaust and an air intake system. Any suggestions?

Also, will installing these items cause any programming issues for my tuner?

Will me engine brake still work?

Sorry, complete noob to diesel.

exhaust size post turbo will not effect the exhaust brake feature of the VGT in any way.

nor will an air intake, however a "cool air intake" won't gain you anything other than looks.

If you want more filtering capacity then you can get a BHAF, but that would be about all I would do.

Avoid oiled air filters like the plague. They are the worst possible filters you could put on a turbo diesel. The turbo has the ability to suck the oil right out of the filter thus rendering the filter useless for "filtering" and making an oily mess inside the compressor.

I know the 5.9 CR engines had a choked off intake horn so replacing that might give some improved flow, but I'm not positive if the 6.7 also had the choked down intake horn or not.

I know for sure the 2nd gen 24v had a larger intake horn with much better flow than the CR so I tell all 24v 2nd gen guys to avoid replacing the intake horns since there is no need.

Changing exhaust and intake should have no effects on your tuner.

however if you are using delete sims, the sims will need to remain in place.

as far as fuel savings go: added timing definitely helps as does a light foot and stock sized tires.

Try to keep EGT's below 600* whenever possible and that should yield some decent fuel economy.

^Jigs, what about his gearing?

Edit: agree on axle swaps! 3.73 would be nice period. TKS........K.

stock gearing is probably 3.42 on that truck.

could be 3.73 though, not sure when exactly they made that change... as long as it isn't 4.10 he should do decent on mileage.

changing gear ratios is NOT cheap or cost effective.

costs like $3500+ to change gear ratios in a HD 4x4 cummins truck..

That's at least what it costs to do mine... F that. Cheaper to swap entire axles! lol if only I could find some

Thanks, I'll drop the idea on the air intake.

Is getting the exhaust still a good idea?

it's good for EGT reduction, but it isn't going to gain you any mileage unless you are doing a DPF delete which you already said you have.

If the cat/dpf is already deleted, how was it done? Did they put a turbo back exhaust in, or just put test pipes in place? It should have 4" exhaust already, does it have the stock muffler in?

Stock air intake/filter is fine up to about 500 wheel hp.
