Transmission Problem?
I bought my 2003 diesel used with 49,000 miles on it. It has the 305hp engine and the 48E trans. I’ve noticed that when I shut it off and run in the store then fire it back up it doesn’t want to shift out of first. This doesn’t happen every time but something is not right… I read somewhere that folks put the truck in neutral for a sec then park. This seems to work sometimes but I shouldn’t have to do that. Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks,
Mike

sounds like the valve body might be gunked up with something. a good tranny service shouls help.
but about the neutral deal. it was from dodge for some reason not having the pump run while the tranny was in reverse. people would put it in N for a few seconds and then shift into R so fluid was circulating in the torque converter

Took my truck to the Dealer for this problem and they put in a new filter valve body and torque converter in. Good thing it was covered under the warranty, $100.00 to me and $1,700.00 to Dodge.
Well, the same problem is still there. Took the truck back to the dealer again, still the same, it's back again. Took the tech for a ride so I could show him what it's doing... If they can't figure it out this time I'll take it another dealer and let them try. After that, if it's not fixed I request a whole new trans, we'll see what happens...
