Default Anyone Got a Pac Brake?

I've got a Pac Brake on my 01 24v Cummins Turbo Diesel. I am getting pretty sick of everyone telling me that I am going to burn up the engine with it. I have driven it 40K miles since it was installed and haul a 28ft. horse trailer with 2 horses all over the US. Has anyone out there had any damage to their engine that can be directly traced back to the exhaust brake????

Yes i had one on my 94 and put 69k on it -the other owner now has 89k on it w/o problems-the 02 has one but only 21k so far--works best pulling a load ie trailer--if i wasn't towing a lot i'd save my money--my .02 cents worth--Glenn

I dont know of anyone that has had problems from an exhaust brake on a cummins. if your towing alot it comes in handy, however if you dont theres no need.

I have one on my recently purchased 98 12V, but it doesn't seem to do a whole lot. I hear it kick in, and with the hood up, I can see it kick in. Is there something that the previous owner could've done to reduce the effectiveness or hurt the engine?

You've got to have a lot of RPM's before it is effective. Mine works best @ 2000+ RPM's. The faster the motor is turning, the more back pressure you get. If your motor is turning that many RPMS and you don't get any slow down, you may want to check the butterfly valve in the exhaust line to see if it is closing all the way.

I'm not sure if they are new or not, but i checked out Jacobs web site which are the people who make the brakes for the big rigs (Jake Brake) and they now make the same brake for the dodge trucks. I also thought I saw on the site that the brakes Doesn't void your warranty.

Hope this helps.
