remove my gas engine and replace with diesel
I need some input on how much trouble/work is involved with replacing my gas with a diesel. I have a 1999 Ram 2500 with a 360. Is there someone who can tell me if this is worth the effort to do this. Does anyone know if there is a shop or website that can help. thanks much in advance.
now this would be a good repower project sincec you have a 2500 and the frame is capable of handleing the the nearly 2000 pound pack. when I first read the thread title I was wondering if someone was wanting to shoehorn a cummins into a 1500, which will not handle the engine nor the tranny. even the first w250's back in 88 when dodge was messing around with the possability of a diesel were to weak to handle the torque of the engine and the engeeniers were twisting frames and drive shafts, and all this from a 120hp Cummins 12 valve
the hardest part is going to be the wireing harness, however harnesses exist for a f-2/350 Cummins repower adn also putting them into chevy's, yet no kit is available to put the ford or the chevy diesel into anything else. . .I wonder why
anyway, click on the TDR logo in my signature, you should be able to find what you need there.
if I were looking at doing what you are doing I would look into a nicely massaged 12 valve. even though they maxed out at 235hp in stock form dont let them fool you, there was alot of potential there for a 500hp road burner[8D]

hey Snyder,
one thing to consider is that your '99 has a Dana 60 rear, while the second gen diesels came with a Dana 70 for single wheel and a Dana 80 for the duallys. your Dana 60 is great and very strong, but it is something to consider if you are going to end up with three times the torque of your 360 gas. sounds like a cool project though, keep us posted.
