Default Resetting the ECM question

I did this on my 2006 Dakota (bought it used) by disconnecting the battery and installed a wire with alligator clips between the positive and negative cables for a few minutes. This was supposed to reset the computer and have it relearn everything i.e. fuel air mixture I think. My Dakota went from 15-16 on the highway to 20 mpg. Does this work on the 6.7L as well? The theory is that if you have a lead foot the truck learns and adjusts everything to your driving habits. Just wondering if anybody had tried it.

sounds like a good way to short the ecm if leftover current is still in system. theres a right way and wrong way to reset computers and that definitely isn't how i would do if it needed to be done...
