Coolant fan working?
I was reading a post about overheating issues on a Dodge Ram and haven't noticed if my fan comes on when my truck hears up. I pulled it off tonight and don't know how easy it should turn when cold or if you can even turn it by hand if it's working when hot. I can barely turn the nut when I grab it with my hand when cold, but it turns about the same when I heat the coiled spring. I guess my question is does it just freewheel easily when cold and/or does it lockup tight when engaged?
When I put it back on it was spinning approximately as fast as the engine was turning over.
Truck is the one in my sig.

Manual says to replace it if it revolves more than 5 turns when spun by hand when cold.
Fan drive engagement should have started to occur at between
74° to 8 2 ° C ( 1 6 5 ° to 180° F).
Engagement is distinguishable by a definite increase in fan
flow noise (roaring).
Fan drive disengagement should have started to occur at between
57° to 79° C ( 1 3 5 ° to 175° F).
A definite decrease of fan
flow noise (roaring) should be noticed.
