Default cummins diesel

hey guys i'm thinking about getting a cummins diesel because my Ram 2500 v8 360 is just sucking the gas down and i'm getting about 8mpg and i would like to get a cummins because they get around 19-21mpg. i was just wondering what the main problems the cummins diesels have?

Check out the other postings regarding fuel economy- you may be disappointed. Unless absolutely necessary, I would avoid the 4.10 rear ratio.

i agree with Len about the fuel mileage. in my mind there are no problems to speak of. with regular maintenance(oil/fuel filters, etc.) you should never have a problem. there is the initial expense, but you will find it to be well worth it. also, the ability to 'hop up' the Cummins is outstanding, with a ton of possible mods out there. trust me, i traded my 2000 2500 4x4(5.9 gas) on a 2004.5 2500 4x4 diesel - best thing i could've done.

I bought my 05 2500 in March and the only thing I keep thinking is why I didnt do it sooner.
The truck has more pulling power than Ill ever use.
I got the 3.73 rear and it gets great milage
Im very happy with it.

as others have said, try and get one with a 3.73 rear axel. the 4.10's while being geared higher and give the cummins the ability to pull a tree out of the ground, it will suck the fuel down on long hauls. and unless you plan on pulling heavy, the 3.73's will do great.

for me, 24,000 and my truck hasnt seen the shop yet for anything. Ive done all the maintenance myself. with this engine it is easy to maintain since one can get to all the filters and most lube points with ease. try changing the oil on a power stroke or a duramax, takes nearly an hour just to get the filter off and dont even begin with the fuel filter[:@]

at first your mileage will be low, in the 13's. but the more you work the engine the better the mileage will get.
